Research indicate that most people who post their pictures on social media edit them first. This is because they desire to enhance how they look to create an image of whom they desire to be in reality. According to impression management this is considered to be an act of social chameleons. The danger of this is that the person met on social media could be very different from the person in reality. The enhanced self-presentation on social network has been observed to improve self-esteem of many people who would otherwise be of lowered esteem in the society. The idea is that you post an edited picture that portrays the best version of you, you get many likes and positive comments. The comments and good replies make people feel not only appreciated but also worthy to face the world. Despite the fact the image is always one of a virtual reality, the impact it leaves on the person on social network is great and can influence their lives in millions of ways. The idea is what one posts more often portrays who the true nature of their characters or looks. On the contrary, other people simply believed in being truthful and the idea that being honest is evil. This could be assumed to be due to the beliefs learned from religion and basic upbringing (Patelli, Pedrini, 2014). Self-monitoring is the consistent evaluation of ones improvement. Every individual on earth always want to achieve the best version of themselves. Achievement of such desired image is not always easy. It is observed through research that most people usually edit their photo before they can post them on the social media. The big question is, why would someone edit their photo before they can post them? while there can be varied of answers, the most common reply is that the edited photo makes them look better than they look in reality. This look acquired through editing could be the better version that is desired. Well, it should be understood that during the editing process someone gets to understand the flaws that they have in their bodies (Roulin, et...al, 2014). This is just like looking at oneself in the mirror while applying body makeup or lotions. It helps to monitor and identify any improvements. The baseline is managing the impression that people have concerning the individual . To put this into perspective, someone can only maintain what they know and understand. Therefore, by looking at the photo they get to know their current looks. The next move therefore, is to strive to improve on the status quo. The best way to achieve this is by setting targets through editing and struggling to achieve such looks (Tedeschi, 2013). The most interesting thing is that ladies are more obsessed by acquiring the better versions of themselves as compared to men. Would this mean that men are not concerned by the impression their images create on the social media? Self-presentation is a wholesome subject that revolve around so many aspects of life and careers. The careers that make someone be an icon in the society greatly demands for self-awareness and monitoring (Parhankangas, Ehrlich, 2014). Every day people have to decide on the image they would want to portray to the society. This image involves not only what they post on the social Medias like Facebook and Instagram. The desired impression can be achieved by impression efficacy. The aim of self-presentation is to achieve what is known as high-strength other. This occurs in situation whereby the success of an individual would be gauged by the impression created by individuals. The most known profession would be modelling or artistic work. These professions require looks and the more attractive (Hayward, Fitza, 2017). According to Research by Robert, (2007), African youths are faced with the highest rates of unemployment. With the advanced technology, most companies in this regions have adopted the use of social media to recruit employees. This has forced most young people to be so keen on how they present themselves on the social networks. It is a competition thus everyone has to look their best in order to attract the attention of employers. With a young population of up to 70% young people, it is clear that the use of social media is great in this regions of the world. In conclusion, impression management is one of the most important issues in life today. The impression of someone is important for several opportunities and in the elevation of certain careers. The desired impression is usually perceived in the mind, it is then fought for in the social media and all means by which someone can present themselves. The image created on social media must be appealing not only to the person posting the image but also to the people who would see the image. A long lasting impression would be created by the best image. The maintenance of the image is very useful. However, the best thing is to always strive to improve the image that one already has.
